The best AI tools for tradespeople in the UK (2026)

Published 19 October 2026 · Checked 19 October 2026, prices change

How we research: this guide is based on each vendor’s official pricing pages, help centre and privacy documentation, and official GOV.UK and regulator pages, read on 19 October 2026. We haven’t tested these tools hands-on for this page, and we haven’t been paid to include any tool. Where a vendor doesn’t publish something, we say “not stated”. Checked 19 October 2026, prices change.

Plumbers, electricians, builders and other trades don’t need complicated AI. The useful jobs are the office work after the job: writing quotes and customer emails, posting photos of finished work, having a simple website and keeping on top of receipts. Here’s what we’d use for each, what it costs and what to check, from each vendor’s own pages.

Our picks

ChatGPT for quotes and customer emails

Start with the free plan of a general AI assistant to turn your notes into a clear quote cover letter, a follow-up or a polite payment reminder. ChatGPT Free is £0 with limits; Plus is £20 a month. Always check prices, dates and anything technical before it goes to a customer. See ChatGPT pricing ↗

Then: Canva (free, Pro £100 a year) for before-and-after posts and flyers, Framer (free plan; Basic from £8 a month billed yearly for your own domain) for a simple website, and bookkeeping software with receipt capture for the paperwork.

Prices as shown to a UK visitor on chatgpt.com/pricing, canva.com/en_gb/pricing and framer.com/pricing, checked 19 October 2026 for our ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini and website builder guides. ChatGPT’s pricing page doesn’t say whether VAT is included; Framer adds any sales tax at checkout. UK VAT at the standard rate is 20% (GOV.UK).

1. Quotes and customer emails: ChatGPT

Type or dictate your notes from the visit, such as the work needed, materials, how long it will take and your price, and ask ChatGPT to write a clear, friendly quote cover letter or email. It’s just as useful for chasing an unanswered quote, explaining a delay or replying to a review. ChatGPT Free is £0 with limits, and Plus is £20 a month for one person (ChatGPT pricing).

Check before you send: AI tools can get figures, dates and technical details wrong. Your quote is your responsibility, so read every line. On personal ChatGPT plans, OpenAI says your content can be used to train its models unless you opt out in settings, so leave customers’ names, addresses and phone numbers out.

2. Photos of your work: Canva

Canva has templates for before-and-after posts, flyers, van-door leaflets and business cards, and its free plan is enough to start. Canva Pro is £100 a year for one person (Canva pricing). Ask the customer before you post photos of their home, and keep house numbers, car registrations and faces out of shot.

3. A simple website: Framer

A one-page site with your services, the area you cover, photos and a phone number is enough for most trades. Framer’s free plan publishes a real site on a Framer domain with a “Made in Framer” badge; Basic adds your own domain from £8 a month billed yearly, or £10 monthly (Framer pricing). Our free AI website builder roundup compares Framer with Canva and Lovable.

4. Receipts, invoices and tax

Bookkeeping software with AI receipt capture saves the most time at the end of the year. QuickBooks lists Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) calculations on its Sole Trader Plus plan, along with mileage tracking and receipt capture (QuickBooks pricing); FreeAgent is free with a NatWest, RBS, Ulster Bank or Mettle business account (conditions apply); and Xero includes document capture on every plan. If your income is over the thresholds, Making Tax Digital for Income Tax applies from April 2026, 2027 or 2028. Our AI bookkeeping guide for sole traders has the details and dates.

What to skip

  • AI that changes photos of your work. Don’t use AI to make a finished job look better than it is; your adverts and posts must not mislead (see the UK advertising codes).
  • Paying for several tools at once. Start with one free plan for the job that takes most of your time, then add the next.
  • AI for safety-critical answers. Don’t rely on an AI assistant for regulations, wiring or gas safety; use the official sources and your training.

FAQ

What are the best AI tools for tradespeople?
For most UK trades: ChatGPT for quotes, follow-ups and customer emails, Canva for before-and-after posts and flyers, Framer for a simple website, and bookkeeping software with receipt capture such as QuickBooks, FreeAgent or Xero for the paperwork. All have a free plan or trial.
Can AI write my quotes?
It can write the wording. Give ChatGPT your notes from the visit and it will draft a clear quote email or cover letter. You still need to work out the price and check every figure, date and technical detail before you send it.
How much do these tools cost?
As shown to a UK visitor: ChatGPT Plus is £20 a month, Canva Pro is £100 a year for one person, and Framer Basic is £8 a month billed yearly. All three have free plans. ChatGPT’s pricing page doesn’t say whether VAT is included, so check at checkout.
Which bookkeeping software handles CIS?
QuickBooks lists Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) calculations on its Sole Trader Plus plan. Check each provider’s pricing page for the plan you need, and ask your accountant if you’re not sure.
Is it OK to post photos of customers’ homes?
Ask the customer first, and keep house numbers, car registrations and people out of the shot. Don’t use AI to make the work look better than it is, because adverts and posts must not mislead.
Have you tested these tools?
No. This roundup is based on each vendor’s official pricing pages and documentation, checked on 19 October 2026. Prices change, so check the vendor’s page before you buy.
