How we research: this roundup is based on each vendor’s official documentation, help centre and published pricing, read on 19 October 2026. We haven’t tested these tools hands-on for this page, and we haven’t been paid to include any tool. Checked 19 October 2026, prices change.
Most small businesses need a simple website: what you do, where you are, your prices, reviews and a way to get in touch. Three tools with free plans can now help you build one with AI: Framer (a website builder with AI features and a content management system), Lovable (builds a site or web app from chat prompts) and Canva (turns a Canva design into a website). Here’s what each free plan actually allows, based on each vendor’s published pricing and documentation.
Best free pick
Framer is the best free AI website builder for most UK small businesses: the Free plan publishes a real site on a free Framer domain, with a content management system (CMS) and 500 AI credits to try, and the cheapest upgrade, Basic at £10 a month (£8 a month billed yearly), adds your own domain and removes the “Made in Framer” badge. Framer is a Dutch company, and you can switch off AI training in your workspace settings. Visit Framer ↗
Also consider: Canva for the quickest simple site if you already design in Canva (free sites carry a “Designed with Canva” footer) · Lovable if your site needs app features, such as storing enquiries in a database, built by chatting (5 free build credits a day).

1. Framer — best free pick for a business website
Framer is a website builder with AI features that run on credits. The Free plan publishes to a free Framer domain with 1 GB of bandwidth and 500 AI credits to try, and Framer’s pricing FAQ says free projects get 10 CMS collections, 1,000 pages, 5 MB file uploads and one free locale. To connect your own domain you need a paid plan: Basic is £10 a month, or £8 a month billed yearly, and Pro is £35 a month, or £23 a month billed yearly (Framer pricing). The “Made in Framer” badge disappears once you upgrade or connect a custom domain and republish (Framer help).
Pick Framer if…
- You want a polished brochure site with room to grow, such as a blog, case studies or a services list in the CMS.
- You’re happy on a Framer address while you build, then £8 a month billed yearly for your own domain.
- You want an EU supplier: Framer B.V. is based in Amsterdam. Switch off AI training in your workspace settings if you don’t want your inputs used (Framer AI notice).
2. Canva — quickest if you already use Canva
Canva websites are available on Canva Free: you design pages in the Canva editor and publish them. Free users can have up to five live websites on the free my.canva.site domain, can publish up to 10 sections per page, and get a “Designed with Canva” footer that can’t be removed on the Free plan (Canva help). Connecting a domain you already own needs Canva Pro, shown at £100 a year for one person (Canva pricing). From the Publish panel you can add a cookie consent banner and connect Google Analytics (Canva help). Canva says it stores your data in the United States (Canva Trust Centre), and its privacy policy says it may use your content to train its AI, which you can manage in your privacy settings.
Pick Canva if…
- You already make your social posts, flyers or menus in Canva and want a matching simple site today.
- A short site is enough: up to 10 sections per page on Free.
- You want a built-in cookie consent banner before you add analytics.
3. Lovable — sites with app features, built by chatting
Lovable builds websites and web apps from plain-English prompts. The Free plan gives 5 build credits a day (up to 30 a month) plus 20 Cloud credits a month, with up to 5 lovable.app domains. Pro is £22 a month, or £19 a month billed annually, with 100 monthly credits, custom domains and the option to remove the Lovable badge (Lovable pricing). Lovable says you own the projects and code you build. From 9 September 2026 it may use Free and Pro content to train its AI unless you switch off Use my Lovable content for model training in Account settings; your site visitors’ data isn’t used (Lovable docs). Lovable Cloud keeps data in the EU, US or Asia Pacific region you select (Lovable security).
Pick Lovable if…
- Your site needs app features, such as storing enquiries in a database, not just pages.
- You’re comfortable describing changes in chat and checking the result, within 5 free credits a day.
- You want your app’s data hosted in an EU region.
Privacy note for UK businesses
Your website collects personal data as soon as it has a contact form, so publish a privacy notice before you go live. Cookies that aren’t strictly necessary, such as most analytics and marketing cookies, generally need visitors’ consent under PECR: see the ICO guidance on cookies. Check where each builder keeps your data: Framer hosts on AWS (the region isn’t stated on the pages we read), Lovable lets you choose an EU, US or Asia Pacific region, and Canva stores data in the United States. All three may use what you create to improve their AI unless you switch it off: in Framer’s workspace settings (Framer AI notice), Lovable’s account settings (Lovable docs) or Canva’s privacy settings (Canva privacy policy). See the ICO guidance on international transfers. This is general information, not legal advice.
